Playhouse Project Application

ABOUT PLAYHOUSE PROJECT:

Are you a family with limited ability to provide a playhouse for your child(ren)?

Apply for Habitat's Playhouse Project and give your child(ren) a chance to learn about homeownership at an early age.  (Fulton, Henry and Defiance County residents may apply).

Here's how it works:  Habitat for Humanity’s Playhouse Project is a program that connects sponsor groups with families who would like to receive a playhouse for their children.

With Habitat’s guidance, sponsors fund, design and build each playhouse, then present it to the children they are partnered with, experiencing the joy that such a tremendous gift brings. “Playing house” is often the first-time kids think about what it means to have their own home.  What better way to foster and inspire homeownership at an early age!

Recipient families do not pay for the playhouses, but do need to commit to:

  • Filling out a simple application that tells Habitat
    • why you are applying,
    • the ages and names of your children who would be receiving the playhouse,
    • their favorite colors, theme ideas (what they currently like)
    • any special needs to be aware of in the construction (IE: wheelchair accessible)
  • Agreeing to a limited degree of publicity – this is regarding the sponsor group providing the funds ($2500) and volunteer labor to make this dream come true.  Sometimes media representatives show up on build days, so photos may be taken.  Habitat also takes photos and videos so we can show potential sponsors what to expect from a Playhouse Project.
  • Participating in a 15-minute orientation (it is a slideshow done through Zoom unless you need to meet in person).  This explains everything you need to know about your Playhouse Project, what is expected of you and what you can expect from the experience.
  • Committing to being present, with your children on the Playhouse Project Build Day for the “reveal” of your playhouse.  This is extremely important because it is a moment you’ll never forget, along with your sponsor team getting to meet you and your family.  This is typically in the afternoon, after the playhouse is finished.
  • Transporting your playhouse to your home (the orientation explains this further).  If you absolutely cannot transport, tell us, but we do expect every effort to be made to do this yourself.  Playhouses are 4’x5’x6’ and fit in the back of a pickup truck or on a flatbed trailer.

This program is NOT based on income-eligibility We do not ask for income information.  It is based on “need”.  Perhaps your family has had medical, employment or life setbacks that make it difficult for you to provide such a gift yourself.

If you agree to the above commitments and can honestly attest that you and your extended family cannot provide a playhouse for your children due to your circumstances, Habitat invites you to apply for Playhouse Project.  We would love to serve your family!

In order to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Fulton County, Ohio and be considered for a free playhouse through Playhouse Project, the following Agreements must be made.  If you cannot/do not agree to all as outlined, Habitat cannot offer you a playhouse through its Playhouse Project program.

I Agree to Partner with Habitat for Humanity of Fulton County, Ohio in the Following Ways (#1-#4) and Understand the Following Important Requirements (#5-#11).  I also Agree to the Media Release as Outlined.

#1 I agree that I will have my child(ren) at the Playhouse presentation (date/time TBD).

#2  I would not ordinarily be able to provide a Playhouse for my child(ren).

#3  I agree to pick up the Playhouse. If I am not able to pick up, I will notify Habitat immediately to help make arrangements. *Please note: your Playhouse cannot be delivered.

#4  I agree to attend a Playhouse Project orientation meeting. Habitat will reach out to me to schedule.

#5  I understand the size of the playhouse is 4’ wide x 5’ long x 6’ high and that it is made of wood. It is heavy and awkward. Habitat does not disassemble playhouses for pick-up and delivery. It will take 3-4 strong people to load and unload it.

#6  I understand I will need a truck (many places rent these) to transport the playhouse (will not fit in vans)

#7  I confirm I have space for it in the yard or garage and verified that it will fit through any doors or gates.

#8  If I rent my home, I confirm my landlord will allow a playhouse on the property. (N/A if you own but must still be checked).

#9  I understand that the paint on the Playhouse may not be completely dry by the pick-up time.

#10  I understand that Habitat reaches out to many organizations to find sponsors to fund/build, and families to receive playhouses, and I may not receive one at the original specified date or location.

#11  I understand that I could be placed on a waiting list for when a playhouse is available. I understand that if a sponsor cannot be found, I may not receive a playhouse through Habitat’s program.

*Note:  The media release (agreed to below) is outlined in full here:

Habitat requires a media release that gives permission to and assigns the right to use and reproduce family and/or child(ren)’s name, images, likenesses and/or voices in any and all forms of media including, without limitation, photographs, films, videos, tape recordings, and internet publications. Authorization is required for Habitat to use and distribute for any and all purposes, letters, stories, testimonials, other writings, quotations or verbal statements attributable to playhouse recipients and families. Recipient families will make no further claim of any nature because of or connected with said use of names, images/likenesses, written or verbal statements made.

I understand that the media may be present, and that I may be asked to speak to the media.  If I am not comfortable speaking with the media, I will communicate this fact to Habitat staff before the presentation.
